Emery’s UEFA Super Cup Curse Continues as PSG Break Villa Hearts

Unai Emery’s frustrating record in the UEFA Super Cup has continued, with the Aston Villa manager suffering his fourth defeat in the competition after a 2–1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
Emery has now reached four UEFA Super Cup finals across his managerial career, but has failed to lift the trophy on every occasion:
- 2014: Lost 2–0 to Real Madrid
- 2015: Lost 5–4 to Barcelona
- 2021: Lost 6–5 on penalties to Chelsea
- 2026: Lost 2–1 to Paris Saint-Germain
Four finals, four defeats — leaving the coveted trophy continuing to elude Emery.
Meanwhile, Marquinhos has reportedly moved into second place on the list of the most decorated players in football history, with 44 career trophies.
Only Lionel Messi stands ahead of the Brazilian defender, with 47 trophies to his name.
For Marquinhos and PSG, the latest Super Cup triumph added another piece of silverware, while for Emery, it was another painful chapter in his remarkable UEFA Super Cup history.
